Sia practices in LGWM’s Workers Compensation Practice Group. She is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association’s Workers Compensation Section and was an Executive Committee member of the Section from 2000 – 2014 during which time she also chaired the Section and of the Birmingham Bar Association Grievance Committee from 2016 – 2019, during which time she was responsible for investigating complaints filed with the Alabama State Bar against Birmingham area attorneys and recommending appropriate action, accordingly. She has years of experience conducting workers compensation employer training seminars and has been a featured speaker throughout the years at attorney continuing legal education seminars relating to workers compensation law in Alabama.

Cases of Note

  • Prevailed in Compensability trial in Madison County, Alabama.  The case involved a dispute regarding whether Plaintiff gave proper notice of his alleged accident and injuries pursuant to the Alabama Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Prevailed against an employee’s Motion to Set Aside a workers’ compensation settlement in Jefferson County, Bessemer Division, Alabama.  Successfully argued that there was no just cause to set aside the settlement.
  • Prevailed in a workers’ compensation trials in Madison County, Alabama and in other counties in the state wherein the Court agreed that the employee was permanently partially disabled rather than permanently totally disabled.
  • Prevailed in a workers’ compensation trial in Marion County, Alabama wherein the Court agreed that the employee was permanently partially disabled rather than permanently totally disabled.
  • Prevailed in opposing an employee’s Motion to Reinstate Temporary Total Disability Benefits in a workers’ compensation case in Houston County, Alabama
  • Successfully resolved multiple denied workers’ compensation claims in counties, including but not limited to Mobile County, Etowah County, Jefferson County, Houston County and Dale County, Alabama.
  • Prevailed in re-opening a litigated workers’ compensation case in Marshall County, Alabama wherein the Court agreed that the employee was no longer permanently totally disabled and Ordered that disability benefits be stopped.
