Mr. Trewhella practices in the Professional Liability, General Liability, and Employment Law practice groups.  Mr. Trewhella focuses his practice on successfully defending clients against general liability and professional liability claims.  Mr. Trewhella also has extensive experience representing clients in various labor and employment matters, including claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for gender discrimination, sexual harassment, race discrimination, and discrimination based on national origin. Mr. Trewhella also routinely defends clients against Equal Pay Act claims, claims alleging race discrimination under 42 U.S.C. § 1981, federal civil rights claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, as well as alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA); Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). To assist clients in avoiding litigation, Mr. Trewhella advises clients on the ever-changing employment laws and regulations, as well as during EEOC, U.S. Department of Labor, and OSHA investigations.

While serving the citizens of Alabama as an Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Trewhella worked under the Honorable William H. Pryor, Jr. (former Alabama Attorney General, now Circuit Judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit), during which time Mr. Trewhella represented numerous state officials, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and State Treasurer, as well as the former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, the former presiding judge of the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, against a multitude of civil claims, including claims for alleged civil rights violations.

Since entering private practice, the last four Alabama Attorneys General have appointed Mr. Trewhella as Special Deputy Attorney General to represent Alabama’s Department of Youth Services, Department of Corrections, Department of Mental Health, Department of Transportation, Department of Human Resources, and several other state agencies and officers. Mr. Trewhella has also served the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission as a special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute judicial misconduct.
